I was recently contacted by a woman who only knew what I made but nothing about “my story”. She was contacting me to see if I could help with an auction she was putting together to help a friend who had recently lost her husband to cancer. This is a young mother with two children, ages 2 and 5 years old. In receiving this e-mail I was instantly taken back to the year 2003 when I suddenly became a young widow with an 18 month old baby. Needless to say I jumped, actually LEAPED at the chance to donate a few items to help what has now become an online friend.
Valerie Koop is the woman and she chronicles her journey through grief & coping so beautifully here. I leave my comments hoping, if only to let her know I was once there, what she is feeling is normal, and that after a long dark period there really is light at the end of the tunnel.
If you are inclined to check out the auction, which I hope you will, please visit the House of Koop {here}. When I lost my husband, friends did something similar to raise money for my son and I. I cannot express to you how that single act of kindness, not to mention how helpful the money raised was in paying bills, etc, helped put a smile on my face after feeling like I had lost the ability to smile.
The auction runs till tomorrow, March 2. Thank you. :)
P.S. Just thought...even if you don't actually bid on anything, would you mind pressing that "retweet" button below or posting on your Facebook, etc. Much thanks & appreciation!
Tania, First off I'm so sorry that you lost your husband. What a difficult time that must have been for you. What a wonderful thing you are doing for Valerie. I will go over to the auction to take a peek. Next time you know of something like this, contact me I'd love to donate a piece of jewelry.
ReplyDeleteHi Stacie-thank you. It was definitely the most difficult time of my life. But, it really is true, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. :)
